Jan 4-7 - rennovate wood ceilings
Cleanup water stains on ceilings and reoil ceiling panelling
and battens.
Meths + steel wool on Lounge + DR ceiling clears up water damage
(lighter colouring) very nicely - probably just shellaced so meths is spreading old shellac around and evening out color.
Start on office (ceiling was varnished so have to scrape down first - this is a bastard job from hell)
Finish office ceiling scraping, sand (roughly) and oil (meths, boiled linseed oil + turpentine) to bring color back out and remove water stains - works a treat.
Start on spare room - varnish comes off much easier (large strips),
more water came through in here.
Complete spare rm ceiling, sand and oil.
Start on craft rm - varnish not come off v easily but finish (not
much water came through here - just enough to screw up the color without loosening the varnish - pox!). Looks very good once oiled.
Redo/Cleanup patches in LR+DR ceiling.
Electrician in to redo wiring (fm single phase to 2 phase).

Floor tightening and last painting of exterior sections.

Jack up and put piles under garage
Climb under house and put cleats across loose+bowed floorboards in
MBR+Lounge doorways, MBR.
Electrician put in House switches and plugs and wire all up.
Builders gang doing architraves and skirting bds.
Bob fixup gap in Lounge ceiling - just lever/cut out old
nails/brads lever into place and rebrad.
Paint outside over Bobs fixups of Lounge exterior trim and MBR weatherbds
Electricians doing shed wiring - lights and plugs.
Paint over trim and architraves around porch wdw + door after Darryl put them up.
Find wood lengths for kitchen overhang.
Mark up old (standalone) pantry for cutting down so can get it out out the front door.
Spade+scraper on MBR floor to see how much of stuck lino can remove - quite a lot - comes off relatively easily - Peter pointed out this is a waste of effort - floor sander will remove it a treat
Dad came up for a day- spray weeds in yard. Looked at vinyl flooring choices with sho.
Electricity on in house - disconnect shed wiring so can pile shed (so no pump/water)
Glooping gaps, oil+CRC sash wdw pulleys+ inside door mechanisms
Bob+Peter arrive, setup jacks in garageshed and jack it up about 3/4 meter.
Between Me, Bob and Peter dig 3 shed pile holes anchor piles 450x450x900mm deep (a f. big hole). Other piles are non anchor 350x350x450 deep - still serious overkill.
Sho get quotes for floor sanding ~3k the lot, cheapest $900 sand and fill so prob go with that.
Garage Piling:
Digging anchor pile holes (lotsa dirt) - I did 2, Bob did 2 (faster than me). V hard getting dirt out of bottom of deep ones.
Bldg Inspector came and passed the holes. (!)
Coopers wood restoration system guy came and gave us a demo. Very
impressive but exorbitantly expensive ( $150/L ~$6k for materials for
all of house) so we're not going to do that.
Put in piles, concrete on bottom, then pile centered in hole then concrete surround carefully placed to keep pile plumb and centered.
Bob aligning piles, Peter mixing concrete me on barrow.
Finished 7.30 (v tired)
Buiding code demands 225mm from base to top of piles - this leaves shed somewhat higher than needed/desired (sigh!)

Purchasing (power) tools, electric drill, belt sander, orbital and finishing (finger) sanders ( about $250 the lot). Small vacuum cleaner (Warehouse) for doing ceiling space. garden hosing, other stuff
Jan 15. Sun Get camping gear out of lockup. Showoff house to Shos cousin (Kelly) and his girlfnd.
Jan 16-20 Garage pile completion
Cut and attach garage Bearers
Lower and straighten garage
attach garage to piles
Remove garage bracing
Final Inspection
Replace rotted floorplates in corners of garage.
Cut piles to height (skilsaw 3 sides and handsaw to finish).
Cut floor plate bearers to length, lap joint ends. Not enough wood to do back wall.
Attach outside water hoses.
Start vacuum dirt and crap out of house ceiling space - do about 1/3 of one half.
Jamie (joiner) cut out hole in end hall for stained glass.
Finish doing back wall bearers (w bob) since more wood arrived. Finish cutting bearers (bob pulled off to do something with house movers).
Carriage bolt ends of bearers to batten plate.
Cut off front of old pantry so can remove it out door
Silicon round shower and end of laundry.
Clean old screen remnants from bathrm wdw
Jamie (joiner) put in stained glass wdw and frame laundry opening
Paint outside of bathrm wdw, putty up gaps around glass. gloop/seal top of shower.
Plaster back porch ceiling edges and other gaps.
Cleanup kitchen wdw with triangle scraper and meths.
Test out rimu dap (gap filer) on brad holes in office door and DR openings (works a treat)
Movers turn up and lower garage then bugger off again - didnt straighten it back on the piles.
More vacuuming in ceiling - slow cos hose keeps getting blocked w old fiberglass insulation

Fiddling in roof - cut gap for wires and gloop round laundry vent
Peter + Darryl use Digger to straighten shed - scary application of big machinery.
Paint wood strip for flashing over gap in front gable.
Put 2 Z nails on each pile all round garage. Attach carriage bolts on back bearer.
House inspector check house in afternoon - final inspection.
House pass OK but still need gas and electrical certs fm tradesmen.
Garage needs plate attachments and guttering but pile inspection
passed.
Find drill and sockets and put stainless steel plates on anchor piles (3 screws each side). Plate holes too small for screws so punch to fit and augment with lotta flathead nails and careful appliaction of cursewords.

Help Sam remove bracing from inside of garage.
Paint wood strip for gap fill. Pickup nails. Gloop front gable flashing after Jamie put it up
Leave ~4.00 pack car and off to Opunake

House cleanup. Clear out rooms Pile of wood in MBR out to garage.
Jamie fill in holes in MBR floor, skirting and scotia in MBR wardrobe.

Move rest of big stuff out onto porch.
Floor sanders arrive help move benches and wood.
Take off front door to get pantry out onto porch.
Floor sanders doing their stuff - floor sands up nice back to white and pink wood. They fill (major) gaps with colorised jointing compound.
Gloop bathrm skirting, Varnish skirtingboard and trim in bathrm and laundry.
Undercoat behind bath and touchups on walls.

Mix paper strips in water for gap plugging as paper mache
Gloop floor holes in ensuite and plaster holes in gib bd there as well.
Vacuuming in ceiling - finish all of kitchen side and start working back

Head back to Opunake.

Sweep out all rooms and hall - cleanup sanding dust.
Vacuum rooms out again after sweeping. Go over with damp cloth.
Make up some floor gloop paper mache/size and fill worst gaps in
office hall, craftrm and dining rm as a test.
Sho take cheques to lawyer for final signing- just waiting on final
compliance doc delivery to lawyers office.
Tues Jan 31 Final House Purchase done
Setup for polyurethane floors (sho got 4x4L tins yesterday, Carbothane low odour, water based)
Dad by to check out floor. I start polyU first coat at shos craftrm - speed brush on pole, work out and onto rest of floors.
Jamie +Kait arrive ~10.30. Get them doing skirting bds.
Keep on with floor - done about 1.00.
Get girls to run steel wool on dry floors (about 30 mins to dry)
Me and Dad work on fixup garage doors so roll up and down then working on dining room exterior sash window ( broken sash cord).
Girls laying on 2nd polyU coat.
Champagne with dinner - now we are house owners.
